A four storey building arranged across two accommodation blocks linked via internal walkways on each floor across a central atrium space. The building comprises various flexible biomedical research accommodation and is designed to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) ‘Excellent’.
Nearly £15m of funding was donated by The Atlantic Philanthropies to build the Institute for Experimental Medicine; the largest gift Queen’s University has ever received.
The site was previously occupied by the Nurses’ Old Home; a three storey red brick building built in the mid 20th century. Queen’s University acquired the site from the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust in October 2011. O’Hare McGovern commenced construction in February 2013 and construction completed in June 2o15 with the building opening in September 2015.
