The analysis includes a number of key proposals; (1) introduce new public spaces; (2) redefine streets and promote a different street hierarchy; (3) retain and build on the area’s important building stock, and; (4) set guidance for new buildings.

Prepared by Urban Strategies for Belfast City Council. The strategy aims to (1) increase the employment population; (2) increase the residential population; (3) manage the retail offer; (4) maximise the tourism opportunity; (5) create a regional learning and innovation centre; (6) create a green centre, accessible to cyclists and walkers; (7) connect to the city around, and; (8) enhance shared space and social impact.

Belfast Urban Regeneration Potential Study (2012)
Prepared by Deloitte for DSD. The study assessed the economic, physical and social needs and potential of Belfast and identified the potential drivers to optimise Belfast’s regeneration potential. The report concluded that DSD should focus on five key themes: (1) Knowledge Economy; (2) Creative Industries and Media; (3) Retail and leisure; (4) City Centre Living; (5) Tourism and Conferences.
DownloadNorthside Urban Village Regeneration Framework (2009)
The Framework sets out the vision for the ‘Northside Urban Village’. The area is proposed as a location for residential and aims to attract creative industries, tourism, cultural and arts development. The document identifies a potential new public space at the junction of Little Donegall Street and Library Street.
DownloadWestside Regeneration Masterplan (2009)
A Masterplan commissioned by DSD to establish a vision for the area. The document proposes a ‘mixed-use quarter’, with an emphasis on encouraging new restaurants, cafés, bars and living accommodation, whilst also strengthening the area as a location for independent and specialist retailers.
The Masterplan outlines the potential to provide over 300 residential units, over 50,000ft2 of retail, leisure and office space and up to 300 hotel rooms.
DownloadNorth East Quarter Masterplan (2005)
A Masterplan commissioned by DSD to set out guidance on the proposed range, mix and location of uses in the area bounded by Royal Avenue to the west, Donegall Street to the north-east and Castle Place, Waring Street and High Street to the south. The plan proposes a retail-led regeneration scheme with an anchor retail store located between North Street and Donegall Street.

City Centre Regeneration Policy Framework (2003)
Prepared by GVA Grimley for DSD. The Framework sets out a strategy for the regeneration of the City Centre.
Three core goals are outlined as: (1) create a vibrant City; (2) improve accessibility to the City Centre; (3) enhance the public realm.
Four Action Areas are identified as: (1) South East Quarter including Victoria Square; (2) North East Quarter, including Cathedral Quarter; (3) North West Quarter, including CastleCourt and North Street; (4) South West Quarter, including Fountain Street.

Holywood Arches: Towards a Sustainable Urban Neighbourhood
Prepared by Hall Black Douglas Architects, with input from Frazer Kidd and McCadden, to review changes since the Holywood Arches Strategy (2012) and consider potential of what can be achieved in the next five years.

Prepared by Arup for Belfast City Council to provide a strategy for the ‘East Bank’: Sirocco site, Queens Quay and the ‘shatter zone’.
The strategy contains proposals for how the area might be developed and better connected to the city centre and the communities adjacent to it.

Queen's Quay Masterplan (2013)
Developed by a multi-disciplinary team, led by Deloitte, including Benoy and Peter Brett Associates. The Masterplan sets out the proposed range, mix and location of uses for Queen’s Quay.
The Queen’s Quay masterplan proposes up to 500,000ft2 of mixed use development to include a hotel, residential building, leisure uses and car parking.

Crumlin Road Gaol & Girdwood Park Masterplan (2010)
A Masterplan for the Crumlin Road Gaol / Girdwood Park site in North Belfast. Prepared by BDP for the Department for Social Development in 2007.
Proposals set out within the Masterplan include: Re-use of the Gaol; access road connecting the Crumlin Road and Antrim Road; leisure facilities; residential development; car parking facilities; Mater Hospital extension, and; redevelopment of St Malachy’s College.

The South West Gateway includes the Boucher and Andersonstown areas of Belfast.
The plan sets a vision for the future and a series of 10 proposed actions, including a community greenway and new pedestrian / cycle bridge across the M1 Motorway.
