Last Update: 25 Jul 2019 | General Update

Ulster University’s Belfast Campus Block BB is a nine storey building designed by FCB Studios and built by McLaughlin & Harvey between November 2013 – August 2015.

The building was the first phase of Ulster University’s £250m Belfast campus development which comprises four interlinked buildings.

The site was previously occupied by two buildings known as York House and the Playboard building. Ulster University acquired these buildings along with the Interpoint and Metropole buildings between 2007 – 2010.

Ulster University submitted a planning application (Z/2012/0361/F) for the proposed new Belfast campus in March 2012. The application proposed refurbishment of block BA and construction of blocks BB, BC & BD. Following a number of planning amendments the application was approved in March 2013.

Demolition of the existing building on the site of block BB was carried out by McCormack Demolition between June 2013 – August 2013.

McLaughlin & Harvey was awarded the construction contract to construct block BB and refurbish block BA. Construction of block BB commenced in November 2013 and was completed in August 2015.
