The existing Robinson Centre building was built c1980 and closed in April 2015. The building comprised a 25m competition pool, 20m teaching pool, paddling pool, diving pool, squash courts and a gym. Asbestos removal and demolition is expected to take place late 2016 / early 2017.
Belfast City Council propose to develop a replacement £20m leisure facility to serve the outer east area of Belfast. The new facility is proposed to comprise a 25m gala pool with 8 lanes and 250 spectator seats, a learner pool, gym, sports hall, cafe and outdoor five-a-side pitch and skate park.
Consultation on the concept design for the new facility will take place during September 2016.
The procurement process to select a contractor is underway and it is expected that a construction contract will be awarded in November 2016.
