The Elms BT2 at McClintock Street is a 16 storey managed student accommodation building comprising 476no. bedrooms and 1no. ground floor retail unit. When the building opens in September 2018 it will be owned and operated by Queens University Belfast.

The building is being developed by McAleer & Rushe as part of a £70m agreement with Queens University that also includes a second student accommodation scheme; Elms BT1 at College Avenue.

The site was previously occupied by the part 9-storey, part 3-storey 1960’s College of Business Studies building. Belfast Metropolitan College relocated from the building to new accommodation at Titanic Quarter in September 2011.

The site was acquired by McAleer & Rushe in August 2014 and McCormack Demolition began demolition preparation works in April 2015 and demolition of the building was completed in April 2016.

McAleer & Rushe and Consarc Design Group submitted a planning application (LA04/2015/0420/F) in May 2015 proposing a 476 bedroom managed student residential building with entrance foyer, retail unit and car parking accessed from McClintock Street. The application was approved in July 2016.

Construction commenced in June 2016, alongside the adjacent Maldron Hotel. Construction of the Elms BT2 is scheduled for completion by September 2018.
