A 15-storey (60m) hotel building designed by WDR & RT Taggart Architects for Ewart Properties. Mivan Construction commenced construction in August 1996 and a topping out ceremony took place on 27th February 1998 when the last of the 9,800 cubic metres of concrete was poured. Construction continued until summer 1998 when the fitout of the hotel began.

The £23m Hilton Hotel Belfast opened on 12th September 1998 with 195 rooms across the 15 floors.

In April 1998 developer Ewart opened a £2m multi- storey car park with 238 spaces, designed to service the Waterfront Hall and the Hilton Hotel.

The Starwood Capital Group acquired a portfolio of seven UK Hilton hotels from Park Hotels & Resorts for £135m in 2018. The portfolio included the Belfast Hilton hotel.
