The site was on the market for a number of years with Smyth Estate Agents with offers invited in the region of £650,000 – £950,000. The site sold late 2015 / early 2016.
A planning application (LA04/2016/2018/F) submitted by Silver City Ltd in September 2016 proposed to develop a seven storey residential building comprising 46no. apartments with basement car-parking (25no. spaces) and alterations to the junction of Hamill Street and College Square North.
OKT placed the site on the market in November 2016 with offers invited in the region of £1.25m.
The planning application (LA04/2016/2018/F) was refused permission in February 2018.
A new planning application (LA04/2018/1719/F) submitted in June 2018 proposed a seven storey residential development comprising 49no. social housing units in a mix of one and two beds. This was subsequently reduced to 48no. units. The application was approved in March 2020.
The scheme was added to the NIHE SHDP in February 2022. MJ McBride Construction commenced work in April 2022 for Triangle Housing Association.
