Plans for the 100m high Vetro building by Box Architects for Sun Explorer were lodged in September 2009. The proposals included a 171 bedroom four star hotel, leisure and conference facilities and 144 serviced apartments. It was reported that Vetro [Italian word for 'glass'] was designed specifically for an international hotelier and could be completed within two years of approval. However in March 2010 the application was withdrawn by the applicant.
