An international competition was set up to produce a design for the 0.27ha. site at 1 Lanyon Place. The competition was jointly sponsored by developer Ewart Properties and Laganside Corporation and was independently managed by the Royal Society of Ulster Architects. The winning design was announced in 2000 as the 'Soloist' by Niels Torp Architects. won the international competition.
Construction commenced on the 78,000 sq ft office building in February 2008. Two Northern Irish firms - Patton Construction and WDR & RT Taggart - were appointed by Ewart Properties to develop Niels Torp's 'Soloist'. Construction work progressed throughout 2008 and by February 2009 it was announced that the project was ahead of schedule with 70% of the buildings external structure and cladding completed. The building was due for completion in early 2010 but construction has ceased since late 2009, presumably awaiting a suitable tenant. In February 2012 it was reported that London-based law firm Pinsent Masons were considering setting up within the 'Soloist' building. |
