Primark Extension

Last Update: 8 Jan 2018 | Planning Status Updated

A six storey retail building designed by WDR & RT Taggart Architects for Primark Stores Ltd. The building extends to 48,500ft2 and forms an extension to Primark’s existing store at Castle Place.

Bennett Construction commenced work to prepare the site during September 2017. Construction is expected to be completed during late 2018.

Primark submitted a planning application (LA04/2017/2823/LBC) in December 2017 seeking permission to display new brand signage and lighting on the existing Bank Buildings and the new extension at Castle Street.

The development is located on the site of the former Commonwealth House (29 – 43 Castle Street); a six storey office building designed by Hobart & Heron Architects and built 1951 – 1952. The last ground floor tenants of Commonwealth House vacated in January 2016 and the building was demolished between September 2016 – April 2017.
