The M Building is a proposed development by Village Homes Ltd (Alan Fraser of the Fraser family) on the corner of Montgomery Street and Gloucester Street in Belfast City Centre. The site is currently occupied by a three storey red-brick building with two ground floor commercial units and offices and storage on the upper floors. The site was advertised as 'for sale' by McKibben for much of 2009 and in early 2010 Village Homes Ltd purchased the site and submitted a planning application in May 2010 to demolish the existing building. Initially the application proposed a 16 storey building with 54 apartments however the height and number of apartments was reduced in an amended application in April 2011. The proposed development (labelled 'Never Monday') will provide 48 apartments (3 types) on floors 2 - 13 (4 apartments per floor), a double height 'coffee house' on the ground and first floor (with a large corner window wrapping round Montgomery and Gloucester Street), a fitness room and laundry facilities on the first floor, access to a bike share facility from a side entrance on Gloucester Street and a roof-top communal garden.
Marketing for the M Building began in September 2011 with a mock up of the M1 type apartment (by Terry Furniture) on view at Victoria Houseon Gloucester Street and articles by BBC News and the Belfast Telegraph. The proposed completion date subject to sales is late 2012 / early 2013. |
