Turkington Holdings were selected by Belfast City Council in October 1999 to develop the site. The proposal at the time was to construct a 122,000sq ft office building with basement parking. Construction was due to commence during the summer of 2000, however in August 2001 Belfast City Council’s Development Committee received a request from Turkington to build a larger building of similar specification in their allocated site due to the loss of their preferred tenant.
Alternative proposals presented to Belfast City Council’s Development Committee in October 1999: Comtech Developments Limited Develop an information technology centre comprising 75,000sq ft with basement parking. Cusp Limited The developer submitted two proposals. The first scheme involved the construction of two office buildings, one which would be 31,500sq ft and the other 26,000sq ft. The alternative proposal was for the construction of a building comprising 63,400sq ft. Both proposals included the provision of car parking at ground floor level. Hong Ling Consortium This development proposal was progressed through a partnership between the BIH Housing Association and the Chinese Welfare Association. The aim was to meet the housing and social needs of the Chinese elders in Belfast by providing a community centre and a sheltered housing scheme. The project would involve the construction of thirty flats as well as administrative facilities for both Associations. |
