Imperial House |

Imperial House on Donegall Square East was one of the first steel framed buildings constructed in Belfast when it was built in 1935 to a design by Kendrick Edwards. In the late 1990’s there were plans to add extra floors on top of the existing four storey building. Finbrook Investments who owned the building at the time appointed Alan Cook Architects to establish the feasibility of extending the building upwards. The extra glass floors on top of the structure would have also included two towers on either side of the building. However this proposal was dropped when it was established that the original steel framed structure and foundations were not robust enough to carry the proposed extension. The building was instead refurbished and renovated in 2003.
