The site of the new curved building on a corner site between Donegall Street and Royal Avenue had lay vacant for many years following the demolition of the Queens Hotel which was bombed during the “Troubles”. The Queens Hotel building which previously occupied the site was built by the Stevenson family who were a wealthy linen family in Belfast at the time. It was initially constructed as the family home and designed in a Regency stucco style and later converted into the Queens Hotel.
