|
The £44m Belfast Metropolitan College Titanic Quarter campus replaces existing facilities at College Square East & Brunswick Street. The 21,000sq m. six storey complex was granted planning approval in February 2008 and contractors, Patton Construction, began site preparations in April 2009. Construction officially began at a sod cutting ceremony on 6 May 2009 and the college is expected to be fully operational for September 2011. On completion it will be one of the largest colleges in the UK or Ireland and will provide for 1,400 full time and 12,000 part time students on a 3.41ha. site. The development will also provide a hairdressing/beauty salon, bar and restaurant and basement and surface level parking for 329 cars.
